Q.

I am surprised that Grange only has ONE person responsible for all the finances of the church when most churches have a team, or at least a treasurer and an assistant treasurer. Is there any reason for this and is it "legal"?

A.

Any organisation that is involved in the receipt and payment of money must have a Treasurer and generally  there will only be one ‘figurehead’. He/she oversees the collection and payment of funds and this role may be allocated to one person or to a small team. In the case of Grange we have one Treasurer who is answerable to the Management committee. They meet on a regular basis and the Treasurer presents a short update of the current financial state of the Church to the committee. The Treasurer pays all regular bills such as utilities, routine maintenance, insurance. All other expenditure is authorised my the Management Committee, Elders or the quarterly Church meeting. In addition to this, the Church accounts are independently examined once a year to ensure accurate records are maintained and that the financial statements meet the requirements of the Charities Act 1993. The current arrangement at Grange is most definitely legal.

Where did Jesus go between His death and resurrection?

A.

My reply would be that between his death on Friday afternoon and his resurrection on Saturday/Sunday night Jesus' body was in the tomb and his spirit was in Paradise=Heaven, Luke 23.43, with his Father, Luke 23.46.  The belief in the "Apostles' Creed" that he descended to Hell or Hades during that period may be based on 1 Peter 3.18-19, which is a difficult passage to interpret, but probably refers to Christ speaking through Noah.  The modern versions of the creed says "he descended to the dead".

We should base our belief on Scripture rather than ancient tradition.  It is unwise to speculate beyond what Scripture tells us fairly clearly, and to interpret the difficult passages in the light of the clearer ones.

Welcome to Grange United Reformed Church web site!

I have been minister here for just over three years, which is probably just about long enough to get settled into the church and the local community.  The Wirral is a good place to live – and Grange is a good church to be minister of and to belong to.  Why?

  • It’s a church that believes and teaches the Bible.  If you want to be a Christian, then you need a reliable source of information.  It’s all in the Bible – all we need to know about God, Jesus, humanity and the good news about how what’s wrong can be put right.
  •  It’s a church where people care for one another with the love of God, whatever their background and needs,

There are lots of other reasons, but these are important to me and could be to you.  Please get in

touch with us for more information
